Community Services PR

Did you know that studying Diploma of Community Services you have an interesting pathway for PR (Permanent Residency)?

This pathway might not require any employer to sponsor you to reach PR. The diploma of Community Services is a very popular course to study in Australia and in this post, we will explain the process from starting your course to achieving Permanent Residency in Australia.

There are many colleges offering this certification around Australia. Among those thousands of colleges, SGCSS is the only RTO approved by the ACWA Skills Assessments authority in NSW.

This has a major BENEFIT:

  • You do not need any work experience after completing the Diploma of Community Services.

If you study at a non-accredited college, you’ll need minimum of 1 year full-time work experience. Work experience will be valid only after completing the qualification. This means that if you are on Student Visa you will need 2 years of work experience, 20 hours per week. This is very hard to achieve.

More about the course itself, Diploma of Community Services, at SGSCC:

The entry requirements are the following

SGSCC Community Services

  • At least an overall 5.5 in IELTS or equivalent.
  • Completed at least year 12 to enrol.

This is a 2-years course, 104 weeks and the program includes 400 hours of work placement.

What are my migration options in Australia after graduating with the Diploma of Community Services at SGCSS?

After completing your studies, you’ll be eligible to apply for an SC485-graduate visa. This visa will give you a 2-year full-time work right visa. During the time you are holding this visa, you should find a job as:

  • Community Worker
  • Residential Care Officer
  • Disability Care Officer

Both occupations are under STSLO occupation list. However,  once you have enough points you can apply for your PR following the points test system, , GSM (General Skills Migration) SC190. Remember that you need at least 65 points to submit an expression of interest, but you would have higher chances of invitation for PR with at least 80 points.

However, if your points are lower than 80 you may need to move to a regional state such as South Australia where your occupation is listed under SC190 or at least Sc491 and you also need to meet their state nomination requirements.

Therefore, if you wish to stay in NSW your best option is to target SC 491. Anyhow, if your target is PR SC 190 (State Sponsor), you might go to another state like Tasmania, where both occupations are listed on their occupation list.
