New Zealand citizens, living and working in Australia for 5 years, might be eligible to apply for PR

Back in 2012 the number of Kiwis coming to Australia was more than 40,000 a year. This number keeps growing and a greater number of New Zealanders are crossing the Tasman to settle in Australia. The peak year was in 2017, with around 72,500 Kiwis deciding to move to Australia.

Kiwis who started residing in Australia on or before 19 February 2016 and have been living and working here for the last 5 years, it is time to secure your PR.

Become an Australian Citizen:

Are you considering becoming an Australian citizen? Of course, the first step is to become a PR, and for this, you will need to meet the requirements specified below to apply for the new subclass 189. Don’t panic, this subclass, for New Zealanders passport holders, does not require the points test system. 

Meet the minimum requirements to apply for PR (Permanent Residency):

  • Hold a New Zealand passport valid for at least 6 months.
  • Lived in Australia for at least 5 years.
  • If you have arrived before February 2016.
  • Have worked for at least four years with a Taxable income of $53,900 per year.
