Lack of Chefs? Or Lack of good applications?

A large number of Chefs can be invited for Permanent Residency in Australia in one financial year. This 2018-2019 Australia was able to invite for Permanent Residency to 2,821 chefs, however, so far only 76 achieved PR (under GSM, General Skill Migration).

An ‘occupation ceiling’ might be applied to invitations issued under the independent, skilled regional (provisional) visas. In this post, we are going to focus on GSM.

Are there enough Chefs in Australia? The answer is “no”. The problem is that only a very low number of Chefs really know how to claim themselves as a “Chef”.

The process can be stressful and complex.

This occupation requires Skills Assessments which is sometimes the hardest part for most Chefs to do successfully. But unfortunately, without it, you are not considered a “Chef” in Australia.

Which one is the Skills Assessment authority for “Chefs”? TRA– Trade Recognition Australia.

This process requires 4 very important steps:

  • Step 1: This is the provisional skills assessment, you are not a “chef” yet, but you will be in the future. And you apply for it just right after completing your studies.
  • Step 2: You need to apply for the first step while holding a 485G Visa and when you have started your “first” job as a “Chef”.
  • Step 3: While working and after a few months TRA might visit your workplace.
  • Step 4: Once you have worked the required number of hours, you need to update TRA to receive the final outcome.

After you received the successful outcome from TRA, we can move on to the next step, EOI (Expression of Interest). You are required minimum of 65 points, but it is unlikely that you receive an invitation with less than 80 points. Your Migration Agent is going to make sure that everything is ready before you apply.

After applying for EOI we need to get to receive the invitation. Only if you have applied for SC 189 your next step will be the visa application. However, if you have applied for SC 190 or SC 491, before we apply for the visa, we need to apply for “State Sponsor”.

Each case is different from the other and at Pace Migration, we look into each application very carefully until you reach PR (Permanent Residency). Don´t hesitate to contact us and have a consultation before is too late.
