International Student Visa Australia 

If you have made up your mind to study in Australia, then the first thing that you need to do is to check the visa requirements for studying in Australia. There are different types of visas that you can apply for if you want to study in Australia. 

However, there are two main types of visas that you can apply for if you want to study in Australia. These are the:

  • The student visas (subclass 500)
  • Training Visa (subclass 407)

The Student Visas (Subclass 500)

The Student Visa (Subclass 500) is for international students who want to study in Australia for up to 5 years. 

With this student visa, you can: 

  • Take part in a qualifying course of study
  • You can bring your family member to Australia
  • Apply online from within or outside of Australia
  • Infinite hours of employment in any industry/sector.

If you are a non-Australian citizen and want to study in Australia as an international student, you will need to apply for a student visa (subclass 500). 

In order to receive this visa, you must: 

  • Secure a Letter of Offer and CoE (Confirmation Of Enrolment).
  • Buy Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) or qualify for an exemption.
  • Be at least 6 years old.
  • If you are under 18, you must provide evidence of a welfare agreement.
  • Attain the necessary level of English (IELTS and PTE tests are popular) if required
  • Have enough money for your stay during your study periods
  • Meet GTE (Genuine Temporary Entrant) requirements

The Training Visa (Subclass 407)

Training visa subclass 407 enables international students to study and train in Australia. The training must be related to your studies and can lead to another qualification, job offer, or work experience. You may participate in workplace-based occupational training activities to improve your skills for your job, area of tertiary study, a field of expertise, or in an Australian professional development training program using this visa.

You may be granted a temporary visa allowing you to stay in Australia for up to 2 years under a Subclass 407 visa.

With this training visa, you can: 

  • Completing workplace-based training (to improve your skills for your current occupation, area of tertiary study or field of expertise) or a professional development training program in Australia.
  • You can travel to and from Australia as many times as you desire.

It is not possible to extend this visa in order to stay in Australia longer. You must apply for a new visa if you want to stay longer.
